Course Description:
An introduction and overview of mounted and dismounted sabre / broadsword use in Europe and the Americas based on manuals from the late 1700 and early 1800’s. This class will examine warmup (balance motions), footwork, cuts, guards, counters and fighting/fencing tactics as practiced during that period. A comparison of various systems will be given near the end of the class. Time allowing, we may examine sabre vs bayonet tactics. Free fencing will be encouraged near the end.

Required Gear:
Gear Required: Fencing mask, gloves, elbow protection, etc. Some sabers simulators and single sticks will be available, but bring any one handed sword you have.
