Michael Miller

I've been a member of the HEMA community since 2014 and an instructor and board member with EHMA after helping found the club in 2019. My primary source of study is Meyer, with experience across many sources within the Liechtenauer tradition, and have been competing in tournaments regularly both domestically and internationally since starting my HEMA journey. My approach to fencing and instructing is based on creating a framework for sound tactical decision making within the ring; this focus has lead to a love of fencing from the bind and using it to the maximum as the information gathering tool that it is.

At SoCal Swordfight 2023 Michael Miller will be presenting the following:

Simplifying the bind

Course Description:
The class is based around wanting to create a more true to sparring training approach for recognizing and responding to different stimuli within the bind. This class grew out of my own experience of a disconnect between how "the bind" its taught verses the actual experience of working in it at a sparring or tournament level of intensity. The goal of the class is to provide a more sparring/tournament applicable approach to the bind by creating a structured frame work to approach the wide field of options available to use as fencers within the context of the bind.

Required Gear:
Longsword oriented class, required gear would be mask, gloves, and a feder, a jacket would be a recommendation but not a requirement

Course Level:
Beginner and Intermediate Levels
