Instructor
Tracy A Mellow

Tracy Mellow is the founder and lead instructor of Iron Gate Historical European Martial Arts in Visalia California. He is a certified instructor with the Historical European Martial Arts Alliance, and is on the Governing Council.

Tracy has been studying European Martial Arts since 1991 when he joined a full contact armored fighting group that used steel weapons. After the creation of the internet and the eventual uploading of a couple of manuscripts, he began to understand that fighting with swords and other weapons was not like we had originally thought. After finding a copy of Francesco Novati’s 1901 facsimile of Fiore dei Liberi’s “Flos Duellatorum” and a rough English translation, he began to truly understand the mechanics behind the use of the sword. He then dedicated himself to learning and promoting the art of Armizare as he believes was truly practiced as based on images, texts and practical application of mechanics and plays from the manuscripts.

He continues to better himself in his pursuit of the art by continuing to study Fiore’s manuscripts and comparing his interpretations of mechanics and plays with other practitioners. He, and Iron Gate also trains for and competes in competitions, performs public demonstrations, and helps train the next generation of Historical European Martial Artists to help keep the art of Armizare alive. He is also dedicated to the resurrection, promotion, preservation and safe application of the great art of Fiore’s Armizare.
