These are the COVID-19 Safety Guidelines for all Sword Experience events to be followed until the foreseeable future.

  • Social Distancing – There will be no touching, handshaking, high fives, (or spooning), or any other type of physical contact between people during the event.
  • All attendees will maintain at least 3ft from each other.
  • Bokkens will be wiped down with anti-bacterial wipes prior to use. After each break, it is the attendees responsibility to wipe the bokken with anti-bacterial wipes prior to continuing. Wipes will be supplied or, BYO.
  • Attendees temperature will be taken prior to the event. Promise, it will be painless.
  • Any participant showing signs of coughing or fever, will not be admitted to the event.
  • Attendees must bring their own pen/marker to mark supplied bottled water, OR must bring their own water, which cannot be shared with others. OR
  • Individual photos with Adrian will be adjusted so that there is no physical contact. But we’ll keep them fun like the example below. This is the time for you to be creative.
  • No items can be shared (towels, water bottles, bags, underwear, etc.) The norm.
  • All chairs for spectators will be apart, at least 3ft to “as far as you like it”. Have fun and be Diligent.

Adrian Paul's Sword Experience at SoCal Swordfight 2023 is a one-of-a-kind opportunity for attendees to learn from and train with one of the most well-known sword fighters in the industry. Adrian Paul, star of the hit TV series "Highlander," will lead a series of workshops and training sessions at the event, sharing his expertise and experience in sword fighting.

During the Sword Experience, attendees will have the chance to participate in hands-on training sessions with Adrian, learning a variety of sword fighting techniques and styles. The experience will also include Q&A sessions with Adrian, where attendees can ask questions and gain insight into his career and life as a sword fighter.

In addition to the training sessions, attendees of Adrian Paul's Sword Experience will also have access to exclusive social events and photo opportunities with Adrian. This is a unique opportunity to not only improve your sword fighting skills, but also to meet and interact with a Hollywood star and martial arts expert.

The Sword Experience is suitable for all levels of experience, from beginners to seasoned sword fighters.

Sword Experience Options

Elite Event 1

In the first hour learn 6 of the SXP attack and defense position along with the importance of three of the six aspects of a well filmed sword fight. Character, Awareness and Conversation. These ingredients not only make you look good but also keep you and your partners safe.

Hour 2 – Put the 6 SXP Attack and defense positions into a choreographed fight employing the "Character, Awareness and Conversation" aspects previously worked on. Then be prepared to be filmed at the end of the event to see the fruits of you labor.

Elite Event 2

In the first hour learn 6 of the SXP attack and defense positions along with the importance of Targeting, Measure and Timing in a filmed sword fight. Ways to add to choreography making the sword conversation integral to the story, while keeping your partners safe.

Hour 2 – Work with a partner, utilizing the 6 SXP Attack and defense positions in a short choreographed fight, while employing the "Targeting, Measure and Timing "aspects to give your interpretation its own unique flair. Then put it all on film at the end of the event.

Academy Event

The Academy work shop focuses on sword basics. Balance, footwork and correct targeting while learning 6 of the Sword Experience attack and defense numbers. You'll work on

Targeting games; Balance Tests; Distance and timing challenges; Evasion techniques for Film fights; and perception in Martial Art forms where you have to visualize your opponent and set intentions to your movements. All of which are tools not only for successful execution of moves for sword work and martial arts, but also to sell a good sword fight on film.

Spectator Pass

Allows you to sit in and watch all the techniques, challenges and tests laid out in our programs during the day. Questions can be asked at the end of the session, however, no photos or videos are allowed during the event.

SOCAL SWORDFIGHT

Your Sword Experience Registration includes a spectator addmission to SoCal Swordfight 2023.
This pass will allow you entry into SoCal Swordfight 2023 where you can feel free to browse the vendor hall, view demonstations, watch the tournaments, and visit any historical showcases that may be on display.

The Instructor
Adrian Paul

Many call Adrian Paul a sword expert, based on his lead role as Duncan Macleod in the action series Highlander. The show spanned 6 seasons, 117 episodes and ran in over 90 countries worldwide. with Adrian performing hundreds of action and sword fights during that time. But Adrian knows it takes many years to become a swordmaster and dismisses this title saying we all have “sword experts” inside us, if are willing to work hard to achieve it.
