Smallsword or Experimental
New to SoCal Swordfight or already registered and adding events? This section walks you through how to register, how to pick the right divisions, and how to update your tournament selections step by step.
-
How to register for tournaments
- Start on the SoCal Swordfight 2026 registration page and register each attendee individually.
- Choose your registration type (for example, Full Event Registration) based on whether you want just classes, just tournaments, or both.
- When prompted, select the tournaments you want; the system will only show events that fit your age group and registration type, so you canβt accidentally choose something you are not eligible for.
- Review your cart, then click Check Out to complete payment.
- Fill out the registration form, including contact info, club/school if applicable, and sign the Release and Waiver of Liability to finish your registration.
If you run into problems, use the chat on the site or email info@socalswordfight.com for assistance.
-
Already registered and adding tournaments
If you have already registered for SoCal Swordfight 2026 and want to add tournaments:
- Log in with the same email you used for your original registration so everything stays linked correctly.
- Go to the Tournaments section on the SoCal Swordfight 2026 page and open the product page for the tournament you want (for example, URG Steel Longsword, Open Rapier & Dagger, etc.).
- Select the appropriate division/age group (Open, URG, U18, etc.) and add that tournament to your cart.
- Repeat for any additional tournaments you want to add, then click the cart icon and proceed to checkout to pay your additional tournament fees.
Important things to know
- Your event registration and tournament entries are separate line items, so adding tournaments later will just charge you for the new events, not the full registration again.
- Some tournaments have extra requirements (for example, judging commitments or cutting qualifications), so make sure you read the event description before adding it.
-
How to choose your tournaments
Experience level
- Newer competitors: Look for URG or lowerβtier divisions that prioritize appropriate pairings and learning-focused matches.
- Experienced competitors: Choose Open divisions and higher tiers for the most challenging brackets.
Age group
- Under 18: Select tournaments labeled U18, such as U18 Steel Longsword and U18 Single Rapier.
- 18 and up: Register for Open or URG tournaments that match your weapon and comfort level.
Weapon focus
- Longsword: Sparring events (e.g., Open Longsword) and separate cutting tournaments.
- Saber, rapier & dagger, arming sword, and other weapons: Pick the event pages that match your primary weapon or the one you are actively training.
Cutting qualifications
- Open Steel Longsword events require a valid cutting qualification before you can compete; this qualification is good for two years once passed.
Still not sure?
- If this is your first event, many people start with one main weapon (often longsword) plus one additional event they train regularly, rather than overloading on brackets.
- If you are uncertain which tier or division is right, contact the event team through the site chat or at info@socalswordfight.com with your age, experience level, and main weapon, and the team can recommend a good fit.
-
Need help with changes?
If you accidentally pick the wrong division, complete checkout and then contact the staff with your order number, name, and what you meant to register for so they can adjust on the back end.
For any questions about adding or changing tournaments, email info@socalswordfight.com and include your full name and registration email so the team can look you up quickly.

Smallsword Tournament

Experimental Tournament
Are you ready for a HEMA experience like no other?
The SoCal Swordfight Experimental Tournament is back for 2026, promising an exhilarating challenge with a yet-to-be-revealed weapon! This annual tradition pushes the boundaries of historical European martial arts, and this year, you have a chance to submit your own idea for this tournament.

Weapons
Smallsword: Participants are required to bring their own smallsword, which will undergo a thorough safety inspection by the SoCal Swordfight team to ensure compliance with tournament standards.
Experimental: The weapon for this year's tournament is still under wraps! Once announced, all weapons for this tournament will be provided by one of our amazing event sponsors. This levels the playing field and allows participants to focus on skill and adaptability rather than equipment.
