Paul Harker

INSTRUCTOR AT SoCal Swordfight 2024

Bujinkan Zeropoint Ohoko Dojo

Instructor Bio: Paul Harker

Paul began his martial arts journey when his friend's father, Ken Carrington, a black belt in karate and jiu-jitsu began teaching him techniques at the age of 10. These skills helped him defeat bullies at that early age.

Starting in 1990, Paul began studying "ninjutsu" (actually called Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu) and has been training and teaching it for the past 20 years. He was very fortunate to do this under jugodan Ron Blackwood, jugodan Karry Dayton, and judan Alex Andalon. This also included trips to Japan to study directly with the Bujinkan Grandmaster Soke Masaaki Hatsumi, as well as many other dai-shihan and high ranking teachers.

The biggest influence on Paul's martial arts journey came from studying with a very unique dai-shihan in the Bujinkan named Robert Renner. Rob has the distinction of being the foreigner in Japan that has trained and taught the longest with Hatsumi Soke. Rob has refined a training methodology that delivers the incredible skills for martial arts abilities in the style of Hatsumi Soke's Bujinkan. Paul has become a competent practitioner in this version of the art, which is called Zeropoint Budo.

He is also a close friend and trains with other Socal Swordfight instructors Robin Price and Robert Redfeather. Together, they have pursued skills in the Bujinkan, sword fighting, knife fighting, and a love of great coffee for many years :)

Paul has been teaching Zeropoint Budo skills weekly for the past 3 years. In his own words, "I am amazed how quickly a student can go from entry level to achieve prowess with useful skills".

He lives in Costa Mesa with his wife Lisa and three bonified ninjas (aka the cats King Louie, Samantha, and Tony Stark). He has two adult children and three grand children.
