Darth Kendra Research
Massachusetts, USA
Kendra Brown does independent medieval manuscript research in her free time. She started translating historical fencing sources in 2003 with the Higgins Armory Sword Guild, and currently is working on an updated translation of the Latin Fiore manuscript in collaboration with Dr. Rebecca Garber. They will probably publish the Latin Lew gloss someday, too.
Kendra keeps an irregular research blog called Darth Kendra Research, and has a forthcoming article in Acta Periodica Duellatorum. She has appeared at events in the US and Europe as well as in podcasts and video series including Fencing by the Book, The Sword Guy, and the CKDF Plague Lectures. This is her third SoCal Swordfight.
If words like "research disaster" and "very deep rabbit hole" excite you, you'll get along great. Kendra also enjoys rondel dagger, polearms, and frequently longsword.

Darth Kendra Research
Darth Kendra Research is dedicated to the study and analysis of historical European martial arts (HEMA) manuscripts, with a particular focus on the Florius manuscript, a Latin translation of Fiore dei Liberi's combat techniques from circa 14201.
Darth Kendra Research employs innovative methods to uncover new insights from ancient texts. In 2022, the author had the opportunity to examine the Florius manuscript at the Bibliothèque nationale de France, using various lighting techniques including an ultraviolet Wood lamp to reveal previously hidden details.
The site / blog provides a unique perspective on historical martial arts texts, focusing not only on the combat techniques described but also on the annotations and marginalia left by previous readers. This approach offers valuable insights into how these texts were studied and interpreted over time.
