At SoCal Swordfight we pride ourselves on being able to offer you a variety of classes across all Historical European Martial Arts disciplines, and beyond. This year is no different. With 70+ hourse of course for you to choose from, you may want to take a look at the line up and start marking down the ones you don't want to miss!

MEASURE AND TEMPO FOR ANY WEAPON

This course will discussed the concepts of Measure, tempo and how it applies to sparring. We will have several drills and games to practice these skills.

INTRO TO PUGILISM
Introduction to what pugilism is and a brief overview of stance, movement, strikes and blocks. We will be primarily focusing on the systems as laid by Colonel Thomas Hoyer Monstery.
INTRODUCTION TO THE FRENCH SMALLSWORD OF DOMENICO ANGELO
In this class, we shall explore the peculiarities of Domenico Angelo's style of fencing, learning from the English translation done by Domenico's son, Henry Angelo in 1787.
APACHE (PARISIAN GANGS) - DEFENSE DANS LA RUE
Robin Price and Fred Kaye will teach the fighting methods of the Parisian street gangs known as the Apache.
BARE KNUCKLE

No gloves or wraps in the street, learn how to deliver a punch without breaking your hands! See why the old-time pugilists were so effective.

MURDER STRIKES WITH THE MURDER AXE

This class will explain the fundamentals of fighting with the poleaxe while examining plays from various fencing masters such as Paulus Hector Mair and Hans Talhoffer.

TRAINING GAMES AND HOW TO USE THEM

This class, will go through drills and games that can be helpful to your fencing. We will touch upon how approach, expectations, and physical limitations can affect the results/goals of each drill/game.

HOW TO COACH SKILLS VIA GAMES - TGfU
In this class, we will explore how coaches can use the Teaching Games for Understanding (TGfU) model to coach in HEMA. The TGfU Model is a hands-on approach to teaching physical education and sports.
Utilizing Control in Messer
This HEMA class will focus on teaching control with the messer using the Teaching Games for Understanding instructional model.
STEALING TIME
When done well, the action in fencing happens across fractions of a second. Conversely, when done poorly then the action is slow, ponderous and easily seen
PERFECTING DECEPTION AND FALLING FOR FEINTS
This class will cover perfecting the feint, how to sell it, and how to not be deceived by others doing it.
ASSUMPTION OF HELM
Understanding the armor or your opponent has an impact on the targeting of your fighting style. In this hands on class with Michael Tucker, we will explore the impacts this has on our approaches to varied armored scenarios
THE HOPLITE SHIELD WALL "HOW EQUIPMENT EVOLVES AROUND TACTICS"
This class will discuss what the shield wall is, the equipment in it, and how it changed over time. Reflecting on the change in equipment as tactics evolved. It will then review how elements of Hoplite fighting can be used in our HEMA journey.
HEMA Fitness: Part of the HEMA For Life Series

As athletes we all want to be able to train and compete in our sport forever, but in most cases our bodies start to give out before we want them to. In this class, we will be looking at the fitness side by learning some corrective exercise techniques for common problems that, when fixed, can keep our bodies from hitting that wall as we age.

APACHE KNIFE COMBAT
This Class is a Comprehensive, Close Quarters Combat course that deals with defensive Hand-To-Hand Combat. Use of knives is extensive throughout the class and students will be instructed in both unarmed defense against a knife attack and use of the knife as a weapon of last resort. 
DASTARDLY DISARMS
When you do a disarm you can choose to dispose of their weapon, use their weapon on them, or even dispose of your own weapon. 
THE SECRET LANGUAGE OF CONFLICT
In this class we will learn how to read the opponent's body language and balance in the fight so that we can know where they are going before they go there. When you can read their body, they cannot surprise you.
VIKING SWORD AND SHIELD
In this class we are going to learn how to use the sword with a grip that allows us to move the sword around the opponent, their sword and even their shield, while being able to use the quillons to give us some defense of the hand.
