Over 50 years in the 'sword world,' Brian started with fencing in 1972, advancing in foil and epee.  In 1980 he added the practice of 'iaido' which was then replaced by training under the auspices of the Suio Ryu, a Japanese school founded in the 1630's.  In 2000 he visited the Getty for the first time to study from the original manuscript the art of Fiore dei Liberi of the early 1400's and founded the Schola San Marco (R).  Ten years ago he obtained an original copy of Gerard Thibault's massive work, 'The Academy of the Sword.' in his efforts to create what he refers to as the 'Princess Bride' library which has expended to a HEMA library.  At last count the ownsd some 50 original works, including Capo Ferro, Fabris, Alfieri, and Agrippa and is quite willing for serious scolars to study from these books.  He also owns the only color copy of Fiore's Flos Duellatorum.

Brian's commitment to sharing his knowledge has made him a sought-after instructor, and he continues to inspire new generations of martial artists.
