Alan is the lead instructor and founder of San Diego Swordfighters.  As a life long martial artist he has a extensive experience in traditional martial arts, with a black belt in Kempo Karate, extensive training in self-defense, and a smattering of Kung Fu, FMA, and Ju-jitsu.  He started HEMA in 2012 and has applied his knowledge of traditional martial form and technique to pretty much every weapon from daggers to greatswords.  In the years since he has focused particularly on KDF Longsword and the Bolognese fencing tradition.  In 2020, he started San Diego Swordfighters to introduce a new generation to the benefits of physical education, mental challenge, and supportive community that HEMA can provide.

When he is not fencing on nights and weekends, he has to make a living working in the Biomedical industry.  Its fun, but not nearly as exciting as swordfighting.
